What is Tallow?
What exactly is tallow? To put it simply, it’s beef fat!
But why would we put it on our skin? Great question—let’s explain!
While tallow does come from beef fat, it goes through a purification process to make it clean and safe for skincare.
In fact, out of all the things you could apply to your skin, tallow is right at the top of our list!
The use of tallow in skincare has been around for centuries and is now making a comeback.
Fats, alongside proteins, are crucial for every cell membrane, including your skin. They provide energy, aid in mineral absorption, and are packed with vitamins.
Interestingly, tallow contains the same types of lipids that are present in human skin. These lipids are amazing because they form a protective, yet breathable barrier that helps fend off infections, locks in moisture, and supports the structure and flexibility of your skin cells.
What makes tallow especially effective is its compatibility with the oils our skin naturally produces. It shares a biological similarity, which is why our skin can absorb and benefit from tallow so easily.
Tallow is thought to help prevent dryness at a cellular level without blocking the skin's natural functions.
When sourced from grass-fed cattle, beef tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, and K, along with antioxidants like vitamin E, which is known for its skin-rejuvenating properties by fighting off wrinkle-causing free radicals.
Plus, the natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits of tallow may help in preventing acne and reducing breakouts.
